DJI Mavic Air 2: Can I fly my Mavic Air 2 in the rain?

Drone cameras have made it possible to capture stunning landscapes from the birds-eye view. Carrying drones on travels and tours is a must for most bloggers. Drones have advanced technologically and now come equipped with hi-res cameras capable of shooting in HD and 4K. The next feat would naturally mean waterproof capabilities- however this is not true for the popular DJI Mavic Air 2.

The DJI Mavic Air 2 is not a waterproof drone. There is a possibility of water entering the logic board while flying forward. This could short the electrical parts. A few enthusiasts may weigh the risk and decide on flying the drone amdist thunder and rain, however, beware- this could lead to corrosion and oxidation inside the drone body. However, if it starts raining mid-flight, the DJI Mavic Air 2 is designed to fly back to safety without water damage. This does not entail it could sustain a casual flight in the rain.


How to save your DJI Mavic Air 2 from Accidental Water Damage?

In case you happen to accidentaly expose your DJI Mavic Air 2 to water, always have some compressed air cans at hand and use these to blow out any moisture that might have gotten inside. It is advised to be careful while blowing compressed air onto the drone, as intense airpressure could loosen the circuit parts. If at all the water damage to the Mavic has been caused due to getting submerged in water and was removed from the water fairly quickly- remove the battery, rinse it with clear water (if drone exposed to salty water), dry it and the put it into a warm room (not on a heater) in a bowl of rice for a few days. The rice will help in pulling out the humidity from the Mavic.


Is water damage covered by DJI Care?

Damage occurring after the product has come into contact with water is covered by the DJI Care Refresh. Product that suffers water damage can be replaced under DJI Care Refresh. DJI Care also covers water damage caused by salt water, as long as the drone is recovered and returned to the service centre.


Which DJI Mavic drones are waterproof?

The Matrice 200 series and Agras are designed to be water resistant, not waterproof. They will survive minor brushes with water or accidental rain showers in a flight. None of the Mavic drones thusfar are waterproof. Does a wetsuit protect the DJI Mavic Air 2 in rain?

It is not recommended to use wetsuits for the DJI MAvic Air 2 drone. Water will get into the drone as you cannot seal the motors, fan intakes and so on. You’re adding weight, drag and risking issues such as overheating.
